What does Urtak mean?
In Icelandic, Urtak means statistical sample. We have borrowed this word because every Urtak is a sample of what a community thinks.
What is an Urtak?
Urtak is our word for the new collaborative poll we have invented, where every participant can ask and answer questions. An Urtak consists of the questions asked by a community and the responses that have been contributed.
Who are you?
Urtak was created in 2008 by Aaron Gibralter and Marc Lizoain. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to our many generous supporters, but in particular to our closest collaborators, Robert Gibralter, Anil Vassanji, and Sascha Mombartz.
Why are all the questions Yes / No / Don't Care?
Urtak puts the greatest possible emphasis on asking questions, not just answering them. For this reason, we have made our standard the simplest we could think of — Yes or No.
Of course, there are always other potential responses to even a yes or no question — not sure, no opinion, don't know, skip, etc. But we think Don't Care is the simplest. After all, either you care to answer a question, or you don't.
Can other people see my answers?
At Urtak, protecting your information is our highest priority. No one but you can ever see how you have answered a question.
In the future, we may add the option for you to share your answers with others. We promise that you will always have full control of your privacy options, and we will never share your information without your explicit consent.
For more information about our commitment to privacy, please read our privacy policy.
Another way to learn more about privacy is to create an Urtak yourself. You will see that an Urtak creator never has access to the community's personal information.
Why isn't my Urtak in the Urtak directory?
Your Urtak must have more than 100 responses to be listed in the directory. Invite more people to participate!
